"Telecom is all about connecting people and businesses. That hasn't changed."
Jildert Visser
Content ManagerA quarter of a century ago, PXS was founded! We never could have come this far without our team, loyal partners and friends. This year, we’ll ask them how they experienced the past 25 years of telecom. Here’s the story of Marc Kruijs, our CCO.
What is a significant number for you, and why?
The first number that comes to mind is the fixed line number of my parents. Although they don’t really use it anymore, let me not make that number public…
It reminds me of the time without mobile phones when landlines were key, and times of so-called ‘collect calls’ to my parents from a public phone booth when I was much younger, and wanted to ask for more play time with my friends ;-).
Looking back, what memorable moment of working with PXS stands out?
It makes me think of all moments where we got the engage with our customers and partners in-person.
During events and customer visits in cities such as Barcelona, Dublin, Kigali, Nassau, Panama City, Miami, Mexico-City, Prishtina, and many more. As most of our business happens remotely and online, seeing each other in person in both business and more casual settings enrich partnerships.
The various stamps in my passport are a fun reminder of these trips.
In your view, what hasn't changed at all in telecom over the past 25 years?
Telecom is all about connecting people and businesses. That hasn't changed, regardless of the technologies used to facilitate these connections.
What are your expectations of the future of telecom?
Technological evolution, or even revolutions, of the past 25 years shows no signs of slowing, and telecom will increasingly converge with other sectors. Industries that once operated in silos (finance, healthcare, media) are finding more and more overlap with telecom, as products like mobile money already illustrate. Going forward, telecom policy will need to keep pace with these cross-sector services.
What’s your favorite telecom related photo from the past 25 years?
This is me, 13 years ago (2013), when I got to take the stage in front of a big audience for the first time, at the Dutch service provider RoutIT (now KPN). Great memories - it was a time of big learnings and even bigger opportunities, both professionally and personally. To this day, I still get to work with some of the people I met during my time there.
